Matchmakers Fort Myers FL
When I first started thinking about Connections41, I thought matchmaking would be the main focus. After all, there are plenty of people searching for matchmakers in Fort Myers FL, especially adults over 50 and 60 who are tired of dating apps or simply aren’t sure where to meet someone anymore. The more I thought about it, though, the more I realized that matchmaking was only part of the problem I wanted to solve.
I moved to Fort Myers from Minnesota and now live in a large 55+ community. I’ve made friends here, I enjoy my community, and I’m certainly not sitting around with nothing to do. But I started realizing that I wanted to meet people outside of my own park too. There are thousands of people all around Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Estero, Bonita Springs and the rest of Southwest Florida whom I would probably never meet unless somebody created a reason for us to end up in the same place.
That’s really where Connections41 started becoming something bigger in my head. I wasn’t only thinking about finding someone to date. I was thinking about finding someone to have dinner with, somebody who wants to go boating, another person who enjoys shopping, someone to attend an event with, a golf partner, a travel companion or just a new friend who says, “Sure, that sounds fun. I’ll go.”
Why I Started Thinking About Matchmaking in Fort Myers FL
I’ve owned my other business, Call That Girl, since 2007, and I’ve spent a huge part of my adult life networking, meeting people and building relationships. In the earlier years of my business, I was constantly out meeting new people. Those connections happened naturally because I had a reason to be in the room.
Life is different now. I work from home, and while I love living in Florida, working from home doesn’t exactly introduce you to a lot of new people. I can live in a community with hundreds of neighbors and still realize that my social world is relatively small compared with the number of interesting people living within 20 or 30 minutes of me.
My arthritis also plays into this idea. I want to get out and do things, but I need to choose activities that work for my activity level. I’m probably not signing up for a strenuous hiking club, and there are days when my knees have their own opinion about what we’re doing. That doesn’t mean I want to sit home. I’d happily go to dinner, Topgolf, a show, a boat ride, a baseball game, coffee, trivia, shopping or a fun day trip. I want to be able to look at an event and decide whether it works for me without first worrying about who I’m going to go with.
That became one of the simplest ideas behind Connections41: what if I didn’t have to find somebody before I went?
Find a Matchmaker in Fort Myers FL
Someone searching for a Fort Myers matchmaker is probably looking for help meeting another person, usually for dating or a serious relationship. Traditional matchmaking can certainly provide that service, and personalized matchmaking is still something I can see Connections41 offering in the future.
I decided, however, that I don’t want to start there. If I’m eventually going to personally introduce people, I want a real community of people to introduce them to. Spending our first months building events gives Connections41 an opportunity to develop that community naturally. People can attend events, meet one another, learn what C41 is about and become part of a growing local network.
Later, when someone says, “Lisa, I really would like you to help me find someone,” I want to have more than an empty database and a good idea. I want to know people.
Find New Friends in Fort Myers FL
Making friends after moving to Fort Myers can be surprisingly strange. You may have had friends for 20, 30 or 40 years where you previously lived, and then suddenly you’re in Florida starting another chapter of your life. You can certainly meet people in your neighborhood, through church, clubs, volunteer organizations and other activities, but that doesn’t mean you’ve finished building your social circle.
That’s exactly how I feel. I have friends where I live, but I also want to meet people outside my park. I don’t think those two things conflict at all. I think it’s healthy to keep expanding your world.
Southwest Florida also has the seasonal factor. Someone can be one of your favorite people to do things with from November through April and then disappear north for months. Finding new friends in Fort Myers isn’t necessarily about being lonely. Sometimes you simply want more people in your life and more options when you feel like getting out and doing something.
Find an Activity Partner in Fort Myers FL
This is one of the areas of Connections41 that interests me the most because I think activity partners fall into a gap between friendship and dating. You may already have good friends, but they don’t necessarily enjoy everything you enjoy.
Maybe you love fishing and none of your friends do. You might want to learn pickleball but don’t want to walk onto a court by yourself. Perhaps you’d love to go to Topgolf, but your usual group isn’t interested. Maybe there’s a concert you want to see and you can’t find anybody who likes the same band.
You don’t necessarily need a new best friend or a romantic relationship to solve any of those problems. You need someone who wants to do the same thing you want to do. That’s an activity partner, and I think there are probably a lot of people around Fort Myers who are looking for exactly that without knowing what to call it.
Find a Golf Partner in Fort Myers FL
Living in Southwest Florida gives golfers plenty of choices, but having a golf course nearby doesn’t magically provide someone you enjoy playing with. People have different skill levels, schedules and personalities, and sometimes your regular golf partner simply isn’t available.
I’d like Connections41 golf events to give people an opportunity to meet several other golfers rather than showing up with an established foursome and talking to the same three people all afternoon. We could rotate partners during certain events, create beginner-friendly outings or simply bring together people who would like to expand the number of golfers they know.
You might leave with someone you want to play with again next week. You might not. Either way, you’ve spent an afternoon doing something you enjoy and met some new people along the way.
Find a Pickleball Partner in Fort Myers FL
Pickleball has become enormously popular around Southwest Florida, but it can still be intimidating when you’re new, don’t have a partner or aren’t sure where you fit in skill-wise. That’s another situation where a social event could make the introduction easier.
Connections41 doesn’t need to run competitive leagues to help people meet pickleball partners. We can create opportunities where people know the purpose is social, partners can rotate, and everyone understands the expected activity level before registering.
That last part matters to me because I know personally that people have different physical abilities. C41 should have plenty of active events, but it should also have plenty of opportunities for people who need to take things a little easier.
Find a Boat Club Partner in Fort Myers FL
This may be one of the more unusual activity-partner ideas I’ve come up with, and I love it because it’s such a specific problem. There are people around Southwest Florida who already belong to boat clubs or have regular access to boating, but sometimes they don’t have enough people available to join them.
Imagine reserving a boat that comfortably holds four people and realizing your regular fourth person can’t go. Maybe your friends are seasonal and went back north. Maybe you’re single and would simply like a bigger group of people you can invite when you’re heading out on the water.
In that situation, you don’t need Connections41 to find you a boat. You need Connections41 to help you meet more people who like boating.
That’s exactly the kind of connection I’d like to facilitate through boating events and activity groups.
Find a Fishing Partner in Fort Myers FL
Fishing works much the same way. Plenty of people love fishing, but their spouses, friends or neighbors may have absolutely no interest in spending several hours waiting for something to bite. You can have the boat, the rods, the tackle and the perfect weather and still be missing someone who wants to go with you.
A Connections41 fishing event could introduce people who already share that interest. The point isn’t that everyone who attends must become close friends. Maybe two people simply discover that they’re both free on Thursday mornings and like fishing the same areas.
Sometimes the useful connection isn’t complicated at all. You just want another person you can text and ask, “Want to go fishing tomorrow?”
Find Someone to Go to Dinner With in Fort Myers FL
This is probably one of the easiest examples because almost everyone understands it. There are restaurants all over Southwest Florida that I’d like to try, but sometimes you don’t want to sit at a table by yourself and you don’t have anyone available when you want to go.
That’s why I like the idea of Connections41 restaurant events where coming alone is completely normal. Instead of walking into an established social group and wondering where you’re supposed to sit, you register knowing that meeting people is part of the evening.
I can arrange tables to encourage conversation, move seating around during certain events and use conversation starters when they’re helpful. Nobody needs to arrive with a friend because the whole reason we’re gathering is to meet people we didn’t already know.
Find Someone to Have Coffee With in Fort Myers FL
One of my favorite simple ideas is Coffee With a Stranger. There doesn’t need to be an elaborate venue, expensive ticket or three-hour commitment. A group can meet for coffee, sit with someone they haven’t met before and change seats after a while so everyone has a few different conversations.
I like the simplicity of it. You don’t have to get dressed up for a singles mixer or wonder whether the person sitting across from you is supposed to be a potential date. You’re having coffee and talking to another human being.
If you have a great conversation and exchange numbers, wonderful. If you don’t, you had a cup of coffee and met somebody new. That’s still better than another afternoon talking to your television.
Find Someone to Go Shopping With in Fort Myers FL
Yes, I even want to experiment with shopping events. I came up with the idea of having people meet at a grocery store, pair up to shop and then switch shopping partners along the way. It’s a little goofy, but that’s part of why I like it.
Imagine how much easier conversation becomes when you’re doing something ordinary instead of sitting across from somebody trying to manufacture small talk. You can learn quite a bit about someone while wandering through a grocery store, and there are conversation starters on every shelf.
Shopping partners could eventually go well beyond groceries too. Farmers markets, flea markets, outlet shopping or other local destinations could all become easy, low-pressure ways for people to spend time together.
Find Someone to Attend Events With in Fort Myers FL
I think this may be one of the most common situations Connections41 can help with. You see a concert, festival, show, baseball game or local event that looks interesting, but then you realize you don’t know anyone else who wants to go.
Instead of deciding not to attend, I’d like people to eventually think, “I wonder if Connections41 has a group going?”
That changes the whole equation. You don’t need to find someone before deciding whether you want to attend. You can decide that you want to go and then join other people who made the same decision.
Find a Travel Partner in Fort Myers FL
Travel companionship is another interesting area, particularly for people who have the time and financial ability to travel but don’t always have someone available to go with them. Here in Southwest Florida, even a simple day trip opens up all kinds of possibilities.
I’ve already thought about experiences like the Key West Express, sunset cruises and other Florida outings. These aren’t necessarily “travel matching” events. They’re opportunities to experience something with a group and meet people who also enjoy getting out and exploring.
Over time, you might meet someone whose travel style works well with yours. That’s a much more natural way to discover compatibility than trying to select a travel companion from a profile.
Find Companionship in Fort Myers FL
Companionship deserves its own category because I don’t think everyone over 50 or 60 who wants another person in their life necessarily wants traditional dating or marriage.
Some people want someone to have dinner with, attend events with or travel with. They may want affection and closeness without combining households. Others may simply miss having a person they regularly talk to and spend time with.
One thing I want Connections41 to respect is that relationships at this stage of life can take many different forms. Friendship, activity partnerships, companionship and romance can overlap, but they don’t have to.
You get to decide what kind of connection fits your life.
Find Singles Over 50 in Fort Myers FL
There are certainly going to be people who come to Connections41 specifically hoping to meet other singles over 50, and I want to create events for them too. The difference is that I don’t want every interaction to feel like a job interview for a romantic position.
Activities give people something else to focus on. You can play golf, have dinner, go boating, attend a show or participate in a conversation event and simply see whom you enjoy being around.
I think there’s something valuable about meeting the person before deciding what category they’re supposed to fit into. Someone may become a friend. Someone else might become an activity partner. And every once in a while, perhaps two people will discover that there’s something more there.
Find Singles Over 60 in Fort Myers FL
Dating and relationships after 60 can look very different from what they did decades earlier. By this age, most of us have established lives. We may have homes, families, businesses or retirement plans, long-term friendships, routines and strong preferences about how we spend our time.
Some people want to marry again. Others absolutely do not. Some want companionship, travel and dinners without combining households. Others are looking for a serious romantic relationship.
Connections41 doesn’t need everyone to want the same thing. It needs enough people willing to meet each other so those different kinds of relationships have an opportunity to form.
Find Someone Without Using Dating Apps in Fort Myers FL
Dating apps aren’t going anywhere, and I’m not interested in pretending they’re terrible. They’ve worked for plenty of people. But they aren’t the only way people can meet, and they’re certainly not everybody’s favorite way.
Before apps, people’s worlds crossed naturally. They met through friends, work, neighborhoods, churches, clubs, hobbies and social events. Someone knew someone who knew someone.
I think Connections41 can intentionally create more of those crossing points. You choose an event because it sounds interesting. Someone else chooses the same event. You end up talking. Maybe nothing happens, or maybe you’ve just met someone you never would have encountered otherwise.
That’s not an algorithm making the decision. It’s simply creating the opportunity.
Find Men’s Social Activities in Fort Myers FL
I’m also interested in developing activities that give men an easy reason to participate. A man may not be searching Google for “how to make friends after 60,” but he might absolutely be searching for a golf partner, fishing partner, boating group, poker night, sports event or cigar gathering.
That’s still about making connections; we’re simply starting with the activity instead of asking someone to identify themselves as needing new friends.
Connections41 can create both general events and events aimed at specific interests. The more variety we offer, the better chance someone sees something and thinks, “Okay, I’d actually go to that.”
Find Women’s Social Activities in Fort Myers FL
The same applies to women. There are women around Fort Myers who would love more people to have lunch with, shop with, attend shows with, travel with, play cards with or simply call when they feel like getting out of the house.
I’m one of them, which is part of why this business idea became so personal for me. I don’t need to replace the friends I already have. I want to add more people and experiences to my life.
That’s a very different message from assuming that someone searching for a social group must be lonely. Sometimes you’re perfectly happy with your life and simply think it would be even better with a few more interesting people in it.
Find Social Events You Can Attend Alone in Fort Myers FL
This is probably the idea that ties everything else on this page together. I want Connections41 to become a place where seeing “come alone” makes you feel more comfortable rather than more self-conscious.
If I see an activity I want to attend, I don’t want to worry about whether everybody else is arriving with their spouse, their best friend or a group of six people who’ve known one another for ten years. I want to know that other people are coming alone too and that the event has been designed to help us interact.
That can mean assigned seating, conversation starters, rotating tables, changing activity partners or simply having a host who actually introduces people instead of handing them a name tag and disappearing.
The structure can change depending on the event, but the philosophy stays the same: you shouldn’t need to know someone before you arrive, because meeting someone is part of why you’re there.
Matchmakers in Fort Myers FL and the Future of Connections41
So where does matchmaking fit into all of this?
It’s still part of my longer-term vision for Connections41, but I’m deliberately building the events and community first. I want to spend time meeting people, learning what they’re looking for, building relationships with local venues and creating a database of people who actually want more connections in their lives.
If Connections41 eventually offers personalized matchmaking, I want it to grow from that real community. I’d much rather tell someone, “I know some people I’d like you to meet,” than sell a matchmaking membership first and then start wondering where I’m going to find everybody.
For now, we’re going to concentrate on giving people in Fort Myers and Southwest Florida more opportunities to get out, have fun and meet one another.
Looking for Matchmakers in Fort Myers FL? Maybe You’re Really Looking for More Connections
If you arrived here searching for a matchmaker in Fort Myers, you may ultimately decide that professional matchmaking is exactly what you want. But you may also realize that what you’re really missing isn’t necessarily a romantic partner yet. You might simply need more people in your world.
Maybe you’d like someone to golf with, somebody who enjoys boating, a friend for lunch and shopping, a travel companion, someone to attend events with, a new group of friends or eventually someone special.
That’s what Connections41 is being built around: friendship, activity partners, companionship and romance, with events that give people a comfortable reason to meet in real life.
I’m building the kinds of events that I would actually want to attend myself. I want to be able to choose something that works for my activity level, register without worrying about finding somebody to go with me, show up and know that meeting someone new is part of the experience.
If that sounds like something you’d like too, I’d love to have you follow along while Connections41 grows.
